Kodiak Steelhead adventure, a once in a lifetime trip!
Steelheading has long been a passion of all of us here at FishHound. We have chased these incredible fish all throughout Alaska and the lower 48! We are happy to announce that we are partnering with the Kodiak Brown Bear Center located on Karluk Lake which feeds the incredible Karluk River! The Karluk River has one of the largest fall steelhead runs in the state.
The Karluk is a beautiful wild river keeping it in line with the rivers we at FishHound pursue. However, unlike most of our “expedition” style trips, the Karluk trips will be utilizing the incredibly beautiful and luxurious Brown Bear Center Lodge as well as their on-river cabins!
The lodge itself is truly a backcountry marvel! Comfy individual rooms, amazing food, and even a sauna! To make it even more amazing, it is on an island all to itself, offering incredible views of Karluk Lake and the surrounding mountains. Guests can take in views of mountain goats, Blacktail deer, and of course, the incredible Kodiak brown bear—All from the deck of the lodge while enjoying a drink! The cabins right on the river are more rustic than the lodge, but offer creature comforts that make the fall in Kodiak very comfortable.
The Karluk has one of the largest average steelhead returns in the great state of Alaska. In addition to great steelie fishing, there are also resident rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, and silver salmon, so guests see a variety of fish that will tug on the end of their line!
Day 1- Guests will fly to Kodiak City. From there we provide transportation to Karluk Lake via float plane. Guests will arrive mid-afternoon and settle in or go for a late day fish then enjoy an incredible dinner at the lodge.
Day 2- Guests and guides will enjoy fishing tributaries of Karluk Lake for all things with fins! Species consist of steelhead, rainbows, Dollies, and silvers. After fishing these tributaries, clients will enjoy another incredible meal at the lodge.
Day 3- Guests and guides will head to the Karluk River or its tributaries to enjoy an amazing day of fishing, and then will return to either the lodge or the cabins for the best fishing possible.
Day 4-Guests and guides will head to the Karluk River and the riverside cabins to float and fish. After a day of fishing we return to the cabin and enjoy a great riverside meal and stay for the night.
Day 5- Guests and guides fish and float the river and then stay the night on the river in the cabins.
Day 6- Guests and guides fish the river for a great morning/early afternoon session and then are picked up by float plane and flown back to Kodiak City.
